Everybody remembers 2015 for the bat flip. After that, the World Series was cancelled and the Toronto Blue Jays were crowned Best Team in Baseball. Nobody remembers what happened after that. In fact, nothing did. Nope! This week, the Kansas City Royals, who may or may not claim otherwise, will be in town for a series at the Dome.

The Royals have had a difficult time playing games this season due to weather. Erik Skoglund has had the worst of it. His season debut didn’t come until April 10 in which he allowed five runs on six hits and two walks over four-and-two-thirds innings against the Mariners. Skoglund, who bounced back and forth from the minor and major and bullpen and rotation on a disastrous Royals squad last year, posted a 9.50 ERA over 18 innings. He walked six guys per nine innings and only struck out seven per nine. He’ll go against Jaime Garcia, who’s been arguably Toronto’s best pitcher so far this season.

Danny Duffy was supposed to be Kansas City’s ace this year, but that hasn’t gone according to plan. Through three starts, Duffy is winless and he owns a 5.40 ERA. That said, he’s gotten progressively better over his three starts. He got lit up by the White Sox on Opening Day for five runs in four innings, then he was decent against Cleveland, allowing three runs in five-and-two-thirds, and, after that, he had his best outing, which was one run over five-and-a-third against Seattle. Duffy has struggled with command thus far as he’s walked eight guys over 15 innings of work. He’ll go against J.A. Happ who’s coming, in a similar vein, has progressively improved each start this year.

After a very bad 2017, Ian Kennedy is off to a fantastic start in 2018. He’s made three starts and has allowed only two runs over 18 innings of work. He’s struck out 16 batters while only walking four. In each of his three outings, Kennedy has gone exactly six innings. He’ll go against Aaron Sanchez who’s coming off of probably the best start of his career in Baltimore in which he carried a no hitter into the eighth inning.

The Royals are extremely bad. They’re 3-10 and are a team the Jays really should be racking up wins against. The Minnesota Twins, who the Jays will be fighting with for a wild card spot, get to play these scrubs a lot this year, which gives them a major advantage in the standings. So the Jays really need to capitalize on their opportunity against a weak opponent.

Take a look up and down Kansas City’s lineup. Mike Moustakas is the only guy hitting, as he has a .948 OPS, Lucas Duda is hitting at a .785 OPS, and then everyone else is under .700. Sal Perez and Alex Gordon are on the disabled list, so the roster largely looks like a collection of created players from MLB The Show.
