Last weekend, we got to enjoy watching the Yankees clinch a playoff spot. This week, we’ll get to watch the fucking Red Sox clinch the AL East. If you don’t want to tune in, nobody would blame you.

Some good news, though, while the Red Sox are on their way to an AL East crown, a reputable site like pinnacle sports suggests they aren’t World Series favourites.

Drew Pomeranz has been a very pleasant surprise in an otherwise hit-and-miss and riddled-by-injuries Red Sox rotation. Beyond Chris Sale, who’s obviously been consistently good like you’d expect, Pomeranz has been Boston’s best starter, which has been key with David Price spending a good chunk of the year on the disabled list and Rick Porcello turning back into a pumpkin. Pomeranz has a 3.15 ERA for the season and has cleared five innings in all but two starts since the beginning of June. In three starts against the Jays, Pomeranz has scattered just four earned runs over 18 2/3 innings in 2017. He’ll go up against Brett Anderson, who’s had a rough time recently. In his last start, the lefty got clubbed for eight runs in one-na-done-third innings in his last time out, and left the start before that with a blister.

We get to see Chris fuckin’ Sale one more time this season! Great! Though his 2.75 ERA isn’t the best of his career, Sale has racked up an obscene 300 strikeouts, which works out to 12.9 strikeouts per nine. A lot of those have come against the Jays. In three starts against Toronto, Sale has yet to allow a run through 22 innings and has picked up 35 strikeouts. I have a feeling this trend is going to continue on Tuesday. J.A. Happ will make his final start of the season for the Jays in opposition to Sale. Happ has been very Jays Ace Happ-like recently, posting a quality start in four of his last five outings.

Rick Porcello, your reigning American League Cy Young winner! He’s been pretty bad this season, allowing a whopping 10.4 hits and 2.1 walks per nine innings ultimately leading to a 4.55 ERA. It seems 2016 was the anomaly and Porcello’s mediocre 2015 season was more accurate. Anyways, he’ll go against Marco Estrada, who hasn’t had the best season of his own, but has improved dramatically as of late. Estrada is coming off of an eight-inning performance against the Yankees in his first start since signing that one-year extension, so he’ll look to finish 2017 on a positive note.

Maybe if the Jays can pull off a sweep this week, we won’t have to watch the Massholes celebrate a division crown? Maybe?! Otherwise? Meh. Not much to care about the rest of the way.
