Series Recap: Jays get dropped by the defending champs

5 years agoIt looked like the Jays were well on their way to wrapping up this series and road trip on a positive note. But, in extremely Blue Jays fashion, *narrator voice* they didn’t.
What happened
On Monday, we got to witness The Randal Grichuk game. Grichuk hit a pitch to the moon in the eighth inning and then he saved a three-run, game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth with an absurd grab. 6-3 Blue Jays.
On Tuesday, Ryan Borucki put together a really solid debut, going six innings while allowing just two earned runs on six hits and four walks. Unfortunately, the offence got completely shut down by Charlie Morton and then ‘pen got hammered for five runs in the eighth. 7-0 Astros.
On Wednesday, the Jays jumped out to a 5-0 lead but managed to completely blow it. They got shut down pretty much the rest of the way and then Ryan Tepera allowed a two-run walk-off bomb in the bottom of the ninth to Alex Bregman. 7-6 Astros.
Things worth mentioning…
- What, at this point, can we talk about that’s interesting? J.A. Happ had another strong start further adding to his trade value come deadline time. Marco Estrada had a meh start which ended his streak of quality starts at four. The most exciting thing of the series, save for Grichuk singlehandedly winning the first game, was Borucki’s first career start. He looked like a veteran on the mound, navigating in and out of trouble without getting shook by baserunners. I think we’ll see more of Borucki down the stretch once some impending UFAs are dealt.

Tomorrow is an off-day! After that, the Jays will return home for a four-game Canada Day weekend series with the Detroit Tigers.
