I was certain these hats were for April 20th.
Here’s a really interesting article from Arden Zwelling about Aaron Sanchez that touches on how his spring is different this year from last. Sanchez’s first two outings, if you just glance at the box score, haven’t gone swimmingly, but that’s because last year’s American League ERA leader is using the exhibition games to work on new pitches that can make him more complete on the mound. Last spring, he was fighting with Gavin Floyd for the fifth spot in the rotation, this year, he’s got a spot solidified, so the results don’t matter as much.
An interesting note on today’s lineup, as Kendrys Morales is going grab a glove and play at first base for the first time this spring. I think it’s expected Morales is going to spend the majority of the season as the designated hitter, but with gaping holes in left field and first and a handful of fragile guys on the wrong side of 30 needing days off in the field, everybody’s going to need to be flexible. Also, Steve Pearce will get a turn at first base on Sunday, although it’s been tossed out there that he may start the season in left if his health holds up.
