The Blue Jays’ bats didn’t show up for Hyun Jin Ryu day

Things worth mentioning…

• There really isn’t much to say about this one. When you’re riding a five-game losing streak and you come into a game with your ace on the mound going up against some guy with an ERA above 6.00, you need to win. The Blue Jays didn’t.
• Hyun Jin Ryu pitched well enough for the team to win. He went six innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits and one walk while picking up eight strikeouts. The team needed something good from their ace and they got it.
• Unfortunately, Ryu was pretty much the only one who showed up tonight. The lineup managed just two hits the entire game. One was a solo dinger from Travis Shaw and the other was an infield hit by Teoscar Hernandez. Cavan Biggio walked twice, but those were the only two hits the Jays could muster off of Philly’s shitty starter and their bullpen.
• Taijuan Walker will start tomorrow in what’s become a must-win game. If the Jays lose the finale, suddenly they’ll be 26-27 going into a four-game series with the red-hot Yankees. You don’t want to see that.
