Things worth talking about

• Joe Biagini had himself a nice start in his second go of spring training. The maybe-a-starter-maybe-a-reliever tossed three innings and allowed one run on two hits (it was a solo bomb in his third inning) while striking out three. He was pounding the strike zone and getting swings and misses, which is always a recipe for success. After the game, he talked for 11 minutes about uhhhhhhhhh pitching. I zoned out about 30 seconds into it. Ultimately he said things were good and he’s making an adjustment in his delivery and it’s going well.
• Apparently Ross Atkins wants him developing as a starter in Triple-A while John Gibbons wants him as a weapon in the ‘pen. I have to say I agree with Gibby on this one. It isn’t so much I don’t believe Biagini can be an effective starter, it’s more that his multi-inning presence makes the ‘pen extremely good.
• The young Blue Jays had an exciting string in the second inning. Kendrys Morales, who isn’t one of the young Blue Jays, got stuff going when he worked a walk, then Teoscar Hernandez whiffed through two pitches before barrelling up on a ball and clubbing it to the outfield wall. After that, Anthony Alford drove a sac fly to deep centre to bring in Morales and then Danny Jansen smacked a sac fly of his own to bring in Hernandez. The kids, they’re alright!
• The old guys are also alright as Curtis Granderson capped off the second inning with a three-run bomb that was preceded by a Jason Lebleijian single and a Gift Ngoepe walk. I have a feeling we’re going to see a few of those from Granderson this year.
• Speaking of old guys, Russell Martin had a rough day. He went to the plate three times as the designated hitter and struck out in all of them. The Jays actually struck out 12 times this game which is, uhhhhh, not ideal. I said above I think we’re going to see a lot of bombs from Granderson this year. We’re going to see a lot of bombs in general and we’re going to see a lot of strikeouts. This year’s team is basically going to be the actual version of what people thought the team was in 2015 when it comes to being boom bust.
• After Biagini came out of the game, Roberto Osuna worked a pseudo three up, three down inning in which he surrendered a single but worked around it with a double play. After that, Aaron Loup worked around two singles in which the BABIP gods were frowning at him. Ryan Tepera and Taylor Guerrieri both worked clean innings while Deck McGuire completed the game with two sparkling innings of his own. The redemption tour is rolling baby.
