Things worth mentioning…

• Charlie Montoyo made an odd decision to pinch run Alen Hanson for Vlad Jr. in the bottom of the ninth inning, which ultimately resulted in the Blue Jays losing their best hitter as the team failed to score the winning run. Hilariously enough, Hanson took a walk in the bottom of the 11th inning, which played a key role in the team’s rally. Rowdy Tellez led off the 11th with a double, Hanson took a walk, and then after Billy McKinney beat out a possible double-play ball, Brandon “The Oakland Murderer” Drury tied the game on a three-run bomb. After that, Freddy Galvis singled, Danny Jansen took a walk, Eric Sogard flew out, and Justin Smoak walked things off with a two-out single.

• Amidst all the madness, Elvis Luciano ended up with his first Major League win. The 19-year-old came into the game in relief of Thomas Pannone, who had struggled in his second inning of work. Luciano started things off by hitting Matt Chapman, which brought in a run to make it 4-1 Oakland, but then he got Khris Davis to line out to end the inning.
• Given that last inning, it’s hard to even remember what happened otherwise in the game. Trent Thornton had a solid start, allowing one run over five innings despite battling command issues. The bullpen, which consisted of innings from Daniel Hudson, Joe Biagini, Ryan Tepera, and Ken Giles, shut Oakland down until Thomas Pannone allowed a few runs in the 11th inning. Also, Eric Sogard continued to be inexplicably amazing, as he went three-for-six with a home run.
• The team is now back to .500 AND they’re undefeated in the Vladdy era.
