The Blue Jays lost to the Braves today
By Cam Lewis
6 years agoOh no, the Jays not only lost to the Braves today, but they lost to Alex Anthopolous’ Braves.
Things worth mentioning…
- Joe Biagini made his third start of the spring and had a pretty bad time. His previous two starts had been very good, but today was an adventure. Though he didn’t walk anybody, Biagini, from what I garnered from the radio broadcast, gave Russell Martin a workout behind the plate. All told, he allowed three runs on four hits over three-and-one-third innings but did collect five strikeouts. The damage was done largely in the fourth when Biagini appeared to run out of gas. He drilled Austin Riley with a pitch and then promptly allowed a two-run bomb to Rio Ruiz. I’ll say it again — I much prefer the idea of Biagini as a two-inning reliever than a starter. But who the hell cares what I think?
- Luis Santos came in after Biagini and got two guys out. He still hasn’t allowed a run in spring training and could actually be an option for the bullpen this year. He was pretty solid with the team last year after sorta coming out of nowhere.
- Tim Mayza tossed an inning and allowed a run, Al Albuquerque tossed an inning and allowed a run, Chad Girodo, who has an uphill climb to make the team, tossed a clean frame, Chris Rowley stranded two hits for a clean frame, and then Jordan Romano finished the game with a clean inning.
- I’m totally fucking around with the Anthopolous’ Braves things, in case anyone thought I was trying to make something out of that. I have a feeling if I logged into facebook and scoured some comment sections, though, I would find a handful of people complaining about this very thing.
- Anyways, nooooooot a hell of a lot to talk about today. The Braves won 5-1 and Toronto only got five hits. Josh Donaldson made his first appearance in the field and had a hit and a walk in two trips to the plate. Justin Smoak, Russell Martin, and Yangervis Solarte were all hitless and have all struggled with the stick so far. But Teoscar Hernandez hit a bomb! Unfortunately there isn’t a video of it because the game wasn’t televised. Booooo!
- Pinball Clemens threw out the first pitch in a Marcus Stroman jersey and this wild pair of pants. Happy birthday, Toronto!
