The Blue Jays made a roster move during Saturday’s game against Baltimore grabbing righty reliever Preston Gulimet off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. In a corresponding roster move, the Jays put the Deck McGuire Redemption Tour on hold as the journeyman has been designated for assignment.
Gulimet was a draft pick of the Clevelanders back when Mark Shapiro was a part of the organization. He’s only pitched 25 innings in the league between 2013 and 2018 and he has a 9.36 ERA.
I don’t know. This isn’t anything more than a depth switch and it isn’t going to have any effect on the short- or long-term future of the organization, but, given McGuire’s ability to pitch for length, this is kinda odd.
McGuire, originally drafted by the Jays with their first-round pick back in 2010, finally made his debut with the Jays after bouncing around the minor leagues for nearly a decade. He pitched eight-and-a-third innings and allowed six earned runs.
