Things that are worth talking about…

• The Jays used 10 pitchers in Sunday’s game against Detroit. Everyone pitched one inning, except for Jackson McClelland, who got two outs and was yanked for some guy named Dusty Isaacs. That’s a great name.
• J.A. Happ got the start. He allowed a double but then struck out JaCoby Jones and John Hicks to finish his day. He was tossing heat high in the zone and pumping it past Detroit’s hitters. A nice start to 2018.
• Aaron Sanchez came in next, his first action since the middle of last summer. He allowed a single, struck a guy out, hit a guy with a pitch, allowed a double, struck a guy out, and got a groundout. All told, Sanchez allowed two runs. But, most importantly, he didn’t have any issues with his blister hand and he was easily chucking 96 miles per hour.
• Ryan Tepera and Aaron Loup each tossed clean innings, prospect Andrew Case threw a clean inning, and prospects Thomas Pannone and John Harris allowed one run each over their frames.
• It was a struggle offensively for the Jays, who sent out something sort of close to an actual MLB lineup. All told, the lineup produced just three runs on five hits.
• Devon Travis was in the leadoff spot and he went one-for-two with a single. Again, like with Sanchez, apparently he was feeling good after the game, which is the most important thing.
• In the game on Monday, Anthony Alford and Dwight Smith Jr. went back-to-back with a two-run and solo bomb respectively, but that was pretty much the only offence the Jays got all game. Lourdes Gurriel had two hits in three trips to the plate, but Luke Maile, Max Pentecost, Danny Jansen, Richard Urena, and Zeke Carrera all had goose eggs.
• The star of the day, and a guy we should all be following closely, for Toronto was Ryan Borucki. The lefty who broke out last season had an excellent showing in his first appearance of 2018. He tossed two innings, allowing just one walk. He picked up one strikeout while inducing some lazy fly balls and ground ball outs.
• Matt Dermody, who’s competing to be one of the lefties out of the ‘pen with Graig Breslow and Tim Mayza, got rocked for five earned runs over two-thirds of an inning. Mayza had a clean frame and Berslow allowed one run on two hits.
• TLDR? Aaron Sanchez pitched and allowed a couple runs but didn’t have blister issues. Devon Travis had a hit in two appearances and didn’t have any nagging injury concerns. Ryan Borucki tossed two good innings. Anthony Alford clubbed a bomb. There are only 30 days until the season starts.
