History is repeating itself right in front of our eyes.
Vladimir Gurerro Jr. has taken baseball by storm over the last four seasons establishing himself as one of the best hitters in the major leagues. Over that time, he’s ranked among the best in the league in virtually any major hitting statistic.
His start is shocking similar to a familiar face in his father. Now 403 games into his career in the majors, Vladdy Jr. has posted 87 home runs — the exact same as his father — while Jr’s .353 OBP is nearly a perfect match to Sr.’s .364 OBP.
Jr.’s other statistics are a shade lower than that of his fathers, but it’s no doubt a sign that they can be replicated over time.
Here are some of their notable statistics in comparison through their first 403 games:

Vladdy Jr.15104297517887250.284.363.513
Vladdy Sr.15364789511487267.311.364.561
Are we living in the matrix? Is there a glitch in the system? One thing that’s clear is that Vladdy Jr. has been walked significantly more than Sr. and it might explain why there’s a dip in the batting average and slugging percentage when it comes to Jr.’s numbers.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened between them, either. Through each of their first 1,055 minor league at-bats, their numbers were very similar, too.
Nonetheless, it’s remarkable to see the similarities between father and son.
