The Blue Jays hung on to beat Oakland 5-4 this afternoon, completing their first sweep of the season. Unfortunately, the win was overshadowed as yet another pitcher left the game with an injury. Party like it’s 2012!
Yikes. The exact thing we didn’t want to hear when Sanchez left the game. Sanchez, as we know, has dealt with finger issues for the last two seasons.
Other notes from today’s game…
  • Beyond Sanchez getting hurt, Freddy Galvis was also removed with two outs in the ninth inning after he hurt himself diving for a ground ball up the middle. Galvis stayed in for a couple of batters, but he was noticeably nursing the back of his leg. Charlie Montoyo brought Richard Urena in as a replacement and the decision paid off as he made a nice play to catch a pop fly in no man’s land in centre field to end the game. Hopefully it isn’t anything serious.
  • Justin Smoak mashed his 100th career home run as a Blue Jay today and went four-for-five on the game. Smoak is now one of 19 players ever to hit 100 homers as a member of the Blue Jays and his OPS for the season is up to a whopping 1.021 for the season.
