Things worth mentioning…

• Aaron Sanchez was largely good as he scattered three runs over six innings of work. He allowed seven hits but very infrequently did the Yankees actually generate any hard contact off of him. They got lucky with some squibbers and seeing-eye singles to ultimately score their three runs. That said, one concerning thing about Sanchez was how his velocity dipped all the way down to the low 90s in the fifth and sixth innings, indicating an issue with his stamina. Maybe it was the cold temperature?
• The Jays rallied in the eighth inning by getting the bases loaded with nobody out but only managed to score one run, which was a Curtis Granderson pinch hit single. Kevin Pillar and Randal Grichuk had a pair of horrible at bats completely devoid of any discipline whatsoever. Pillar can have a pass because he’s had a great April, but Grichuk has struggled mightily this year and looked totally hopeless as David Robertson fooled him with breaking balls. How much longer is his leash going to be?
• The Jays had been extremely good with runners in scoring position, but tonight they went just 2-for-14. I mean, the chances were there, they just didn’t cash them in, which isn’t something we’re used to this year. Let’s blame the cold. I guess one positive is the fact the Jays got CC Sabathia out in the fifth inning and made the Yankees use all of their key relievers in the first game of the series.
