A new addition will be featured on the Toronto Blue Jays’ uniform as they open the second half of the season on Friday: a jersey patch, which will appear on every uniform moving forward.
Toronto unveiled a new partnership with TD Bank on Friday morning, announcing the company’s green logo will be scaled to three inches-by-three inches and appear on the left sleeve of each jersey. They become the 14th franchise in Major League Baseball to introduce a jersey patch – a revenue-generating feature included in last year’s CBA negotiations.
This latest announcement will surely be unpopular amongst Blue Jays fans, mainly because the green logo may clash with the team’s white and blue colour scheme. And that is a fair argument to make. At the same time, however, more advertisements, particularly ones on helmets, are probably on the way in the near future.
For now, though, there aren’t any immediate plans to add additional patches or decals in the short term.
The Blue Jays will kick off the second half with a six-game homestand at the Rogers Centre, beginning with a three-game set versus Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
