It’s September 1st, and rosters have officially expanded by two. With this expansion, the Toronto Blue Jays wasted no time in making moves before tonight’s game against the Cleveland Guardians.

The Blue Jays announced that LHP Joe Mantiply and INF Josh Smith have been reinstated from the IL and will be active for tonight’s game, while the Jays are also calling up INF Sean Keys and LHP Ricky Tiedemann to the big league squad. To make room on the roster, OF Daz Cameron was designated for assignment.

Mason Fluharty is getting some help in the bullpen, with Mantiply and Tiedemann able to supplement the fellow southpaw in the relief corps.

Mantiply has been on the shelf since mid-May with a knee injury and was pitching well before landing on the sidelines. Through 17.2 innings, the veteran hurler pitched to a 2.04 ERA and a 2.86 FIP with a 1.132 WHIP and 16 strikeouts. Tiedemann returns to the big leagues after making his big league debut last month. The top prospect followed an opener and across 1.2 innings, allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out two while facing seven batters.

On the diamond, the Jays are getting back trade deadline acquisition Josh Smith, with the utilityman landing on the IL in mid-August with a hamstring injury. He appeared in 14 games for Toronto before the injury, and collected seven hits through 28 at-bats (.250) while adding two home runs, three RBIs, and one stolen base with a .787 OPS.

Joining Smith on the big league roster is top prospect Sean Keys, who had a cup of coffee with the Jays before heading back to Triple-A Buffalo. Through 12 games and 36 at-bats, he amassed a .167/.189/.278 slash line with one double, one home run, and five RBIs. The New York product has been in Buffalo since July 23rd, and the left-handed bat has been on a tear with the Bisons since then. Through August, he amassed a .358/.470/.684 slash line with seven home runs, 25 RBIs and 16 walks compared to 23 strikeouts.

To make room on the roster front, the Jays designated outfielder Daz Cameron for assignment. The Georgia product signed a MiLB deal with the club back on July 8th, and he’s been with the big league squad since August 15th. Across eight games, he collected five hits (.208) with one double, one home run, and three RBIs with a .575 OPS.
