Robertson was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had an okay 2022 season in Double-A and High-A, posting a 4.43 ERA and a 4.10 FIP in 67 innings pitched with a 29.3 K% and a 10.1 BB%. With the Dodgers organization in 2023, he had a 2.54 ERA and a 2.86 FIP in 28.1 innings pitched but was traded to the Boston Red Sox before the 2023 trade deadline. He finished the season with the Red Sox’s Triple-A team, posting a 4.40 ERA and a 5.11 FIP.
Before the start of the 2024 season, Robertson was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Canadian outfielder Tyler O’Neill. With the Cardinals, Robertson had a 4.38 ERA and a 4.54 FIP but pitched most of his season in Triple-A. With the Cardinals’ AAA team, Robertson had a 7.48 ERA and a 5.92 FIP in 21.2 innings pitched. He was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Angels, where he had a 6.92 ERA and a 4.30 FIP in 13 Triple-A innings pitched before being claimed by the Blue Jays.
He only pitched three innings between Triple-A and the big league team, but he didn’t allow an earned run, a positive sign.
Another encouraging sign is his <a href="https://www.fangraphs.com/players/nick-robertson/26226/stats?position=P">Fangraphs’ projections</a>. Steamer projects he’ll finish the 2025 season with a 3.97 ERA and a 4.09 FIP in 44 innings pitched. His worst projection is ATC, which has him posting a 4.11 ERA and a 4.14 FIP in 38 innings pitched while OOPSY has him posting a 4.04 ERA and a 4.01 FIP in 44 innings pitched. You&#8217;ll take that.
Unless Robertson pitches really well in Spring Training, he’s unlikely to make the Blue Jays Opening Day roster. That’s okay though, as he still has an option year remaining in 2025, giving the Blue Jays additional flexibility. Robertson is a young arm with some potential, hence why he was the main prospect going the other way in two sizable trades.
