The Toronto Blue Jays have made another waive of roster cuts.
After a pair of shutout victories on Sunday afternoon, the team announced a handful of roster moves, optioning Jake Bloss and Ricky Tiedemann to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, while re-assigning Tanner Andrews, Nate Garkow, and Chay Yeager to the Minor League camp.
Neither Tiedemann nor Bloss pitched during Spring Training, as both players are ramping back up after missing all or most of the 2025 season. Tiedemann hasn’t pitched since the summer of 2024 and as of the last update, he hasn’t resumed throwing since being shut down due to elbow soreness.
That’s not particularly great news for the 23-year-old left-handed pitcher, as Tiedemann was once considered the Blue Jays’ top prospect, but has been injured for much of 2023 (bicep), 2024, and 2025 (Tommy John surgery). When healthy, he has great stuff and a fastball that can reach in the upper 90s.
Bloss, acquired by the Blue Jays in the Yusei Kikuchi trade with the Houston Astros in 2024, made just six starts with the Bisons last season before also being shut down due to Tommy John surgery. He hasn’t had a great go of things since joining the organization, posting a 6.91 ERA and 5.87 FIP in 27.1 innings after the trade. Before the injury, the 24-year-old had 6.46 ERA and 4.76 FIP in 23.2 innings pitched.
Still, there’s the potential of a middle-of-the-rotation starter in Bloss, and hopefully he returns to action with the Bisons sooner rather than later, as the Jays can always use some more starting pitching depth.
As you can tell by Bloss and Tiedemann, quite a handful of Blue Jays’ pitching prospects have had Tommy John surgery in the last few seasons. One prospect who had it in February was Chay Yeager. Drafted in the 12th round of the 2023 draft, Yeager posted a 2.75 ERA and 3.45 FIP in 55.2 innings pitched between High-A and Double-A last season, with a 29.1 K% and 9.1 BB%. The 23-year-old righty is one of the Blue Jays’ better relief prospects.
Another interesting relief prospect in the system is Nate Garkow. Everyone knows that Trey Yesavage, Johnny King, and Gage Stanifer had a ton of strikeouts last season, but Garkow finished with the third-highest K% of 38.7% last season. The 28-year-old had a tough go in High-A, posting a 7.56 ERA and 3.87 FIP in 16.2 innings pitched, but had a sparkling 1.22 ERA and 2.18 FIP in 37 innings pitched in Double-A upon a promotion.
Andrews, 30, was signed to a minor league deal in late November. In three Spring Training innings, he hasn’t given up an earned run and has struck out four of the 10 batters he’s faced. Last season, he appeared in 14 games with the Minnesota Twins’ Double-A team, where he had a 3.78 ERA and 2.01 FIP.
