Blue Jays: Spencer Arrighetti leaves Bisons game with apparent injury

The cursed season keeps getting worse.
Before Monday’s trade deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays sent Daulton Varsho to the Houston Astros for starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti. On the injured list, Arrighetti made a rehab start with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Thursday evening, but departed with an apparent injury.
Arrighetti was on the injured list after suffering a nerve irritation in his right foot, with the Astros placing him on the IL in late July. The performance itself was solid, with the 26-year-old striking out batter in the first inning, which was sandwiched between a ground out and a fly out. In the second inning, Arrighetti gave up back-to-back walks, but got out of the inning with a fly out and two ground outs.
The third inning is when the apparent injury occurred. After getting a pop out, Arrighetti threw three pitches to the next batter, signaling to the dugout after the third pitch of the at-bat. He was pulled from there to end his outing.
It’s unclear what the injury is, but this is not good news for a Blue Jays team that has seen their rotation plagued with injuries in 2026. Trey Yesavage was recently placed on the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation, joining Cody Ponce, Bowden Francis, and José Berríos. Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer have also missed significant time due to injury this season.
The Jays also don’t have very many Major League Baseball ready starters available in Triple-A. Jake Bloss is once again on the 7-day injured list, while Ricky Tiedemann has exclusively worked from the bullpen since he started ramping up. Chad Dallas, Lázaro Estrada, and CJ Van Eyk have been up and down between MLB and Triple-A all season.
Hopefully, this is just a precautionary move, but losing Arrighetti for any extended period time is bad news for the Jays.
