On Thursday, before the Toronto Blue Jays’ series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, the Blue Jays officially added pitcher Connor Seabold to the 26-man roster.
After being acquired from the Detroit Tigers yesterday in exchange for pitching prospect Juanmi Vasquez, manager John Schneider announced that Seabold would join the club’s active roster for their series in Baltimore.
Seabold spent a large portion of spring training with the Blue Jays after signing a minor league contract on January 21, 2026. In six appearances during the spring, Seabold compiled a 6.75 ERA over 6 1/3 innings before the Blue Jays opted against adding him to the 40-man roster. Seabold wound up electing free agency and signed with the Detroit Tigers.
The 30-year-old was selected to the Tigers’ Opening Day roster and made 11 appearances with them before Wednesday’s trade. Working exclusively out of the Tigers’ bullpen, Seabold went 1-0 with a 3.45 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 15 2/3 innings pitched. Five of Seabold’s 11 outings this year have spanned more than one inning, so the righty brings some length to a Blue Jays team needing to cover innings as injuries continue to mount in their rotation.
In a corresponding move, right-hander Chase Lee was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Lee returned for his second stint with the Blue Jays this season on May 19 after Joe Mantiply was placed on the injured list with left knee inflammation.
Lee struggled with command over his two appearances, walking four batters over his two innings pitched. Also acquired from the Tigers, Lee has made three appearances with the Blue Jays this season and has posted an 8.10 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP over 3 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old has also served up two home runs, including one last Sunday to Esmerlyn Valdez of the Pittsburgh Pirates for his first career MLB home run.
The righty returns to the Bisons, where he has had success during the 2026 season. Over 16 games, Lee has a record of 0-1, an ERA of 1.74 and a WHIP of 1.35 while also picking up three saves in as many opportunities.
