Baseball is just around the corner.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced their Spring Training dates on Tuesday afternoon. Pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 13, the first full-squad work is five days later, and their first Spring Training game is on Feb. 22 against the New York Yankees.
Itâs crazy how fast the off-season has gone, as the Blue Jays havenât played a game of baseball since late Sep., much less a game of importance in ages. The pitchers and catchers workout is usually the first sign that baseball is starting, and weâre less than a month away. Theyâll play eight games in February and 22 Spring Training games in March. Moreover, the Blue Jays prospects will take on the Minnesota Twins prospects on Mar. 15.
The regular season begins on Mar. 27 with a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles in Toronto before the Jays host the Washington Nationals for a three-game set. After, the Jays head on a lengthy road trip to face the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Orioles.
Still, thereâs a lot of work to be done on the roster this off-season. The Jays are finalists for RĆki Sasaki, alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. If theyâre able to get him, thatâd significantly improve their bullpen while pushing Yariel RodrĂguez to the bullpen.
Speaking of the bullpen, theyâve already made meaningful additions, such as Yimi GarcĂa and Jeff Hoffman, but still need a long-man and a left-handed pitcher to round it out. On Tuesday, OOPSY released their projections for every MLB player, and the bullpen of the Blue Jays is projected to have an ERA+ of 104, tied for ninth.

One area that hasnât been touched this off-season is their lacklustre offence, as the Jays actually downgraded offensively by trading Spencer Horwitz and Nick Mitchell for AndrĂ©s GimĂ©nez and Nick Sandlin. Horwitz was one of two Blue Jays players in 2024 who finished the season on the team with a wRC+ above 100 (minimum: 100 plate appearances), while GimĂ©nez finished an 83 wRC+.
It wonât be surprising if the Jays add some power to the lineup. Players like Anthony Santander, Alex Bregman, and Pete Alonso fit the bill nicely.
