The Toronto Blue Jays absolutely beat the wheels out of the Los Angeles Angels this season.
Following a three-game sweep in Anaheim a couple of weeks ago, the Angels came to Toronto for a four-game weekend set and the Blue Jays again brought out the brooms. The seventh and final win of the season series sweep came on Sunday when Toronto hammered L.A. by a score of 8-2.
Kevin Gausman got the start for the Blue Jays and followed up Bowden Francis’ near no-hitter with another excellent performance. The right-hander allowed one earned run on two hits and zero walks over seven innings of work and struck out ten batters.
The only damage that Gausman allowed came in the fourth inning when Taylor Ward hit a leadoff triple and Zach Neto scored him with a single. Every inning otherwise saw Gausman retire the Angels three up, three down. He’s now 12-9 with a 4.10 ERA on the season.

The game was tight through the first five innings but the Blue Jays gave their starter some insurance starting in the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Tyler Anderson went five innings and then handed the ball off to Hunter Strickland, who allowed a two-run shot to Addison Barger. The dinger was Barger’s fifth of the season and second in this series.

Matt Moore came into the game for the seventh inning and allowed a two-run home run to Alejandro Kirk that put the Blue Jays ahead by a score of 6-1. Ryan Zeferjahn came in next and also allowed a couple of runs. He hit a batter, walked two, had one run come across on a groundout, and another on a single by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Tommy Nance and Zach Pop finished things off for Toronto in the eighth and ninth after Gausman came out of the game. Nance allowed a home run to Blue Jays Legend Brandon Drury and Pop struck out two in a clean ninth.
Up next… The Blue Jays will travel to Boston for a four-game series at Fenway Park. Monday, the two teams will play a doubleheader, with the first game picking up in the top of the second inning from a game in June that was postponed. Danny Jansen was up to bat for the Blue Jays when that game was called due to rain and will be playing for the Red Sox on Monday.
