In a day that was predicted to be busy with trades, a rare Blue Jays waiver claim has happened. The team announcing they have claimed right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart off waivers from the Dodgers.
Stewart, 27, will be optioned to Triple-A and will reportedly join the rotation as soon as possible in Buffalo.
This season for the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, Stewart has a 7.34 ERA through 76 innings — what a hot waiver claim to get. He has been in between the majors and that level for three years now and was once seen as a solid prospect. Currently in Fangraphs prospect rankings, Stewart is the Dodgers’ no. 7 prospect with a 45 FV.
Although 27-years-old, he has shown some capability earlier on and might be an intriguing piece for late season bullpen with the Jays or staying in Buffalo.
This move could foreshadow some later pitching moves, as Jon Heyman recently reported that the Yankees are looking into Aaron Sanchez as a possible trade option.
