The Toronto Blue Jays made their Opening Day roster for the 2023 season official on Thursday morning.
Here are the 26 players that’ll be kicking things off in St. Louis… 
  • Starting Pitchers (5): Alek Manoah, Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt, Jose Berrios, Yusei Kikuchi
  • Relief Pitchers (8): Jordan Romano, Tim Mayza, Erik Swanson, Anthony Bass, Yimi Garcia, Adam Cimber, Trevor Richards, Zach Pop
  • Catchers (2): Alejandro Kirk, Danny Jansen
  • Infielders (7): Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Matt Chapman, Brandon Belt, Santiago Espinal, Cavan Biggio, Whit Merrifield
  • Outfielders (4): Kevin Kiermaier, George Springer, Daulton Varsho, Nathan Lukes
Headed to the 15-day Injured List, as expected, are pitchers Hyun Jin Ryu and Mitch White.
Ryu had season-ending Tommy John surgery last year and isn’t expected to join the team until well into the summer. The Blue Jays could eventually move him to the 60-day Injured List in order to open up another spot on the 40-man roster but there are some tricky specifics when it comes to the Blue Jays getting insurance money for his injury that could be in play here.
White suffered a right shoulder impingement during the off-season and didn’t make any appearances during spring training. There isn’t a specific timetable for when White is expected to join the team, but he’ll likely slot in as the Blue Jays’ long reliever and No. 6 starter once he does. It’s also worth noting that White is out of options and can’t be assigned to Triple-A without going through waivers.
