The best way to describe the 2025 Toronto Blue Jays is that their bats are like the 2023 Jays, but with 2022 Jays vibes.
Just four series into the season, the Blue Jays are looking to sweep their second series this season. For context, their second sweep of the 2024 season came against the Texas Rangers in late July. They only swept five series all season in 2024.
Of course, let’s not put the cart before the horse: the Jays have to win Thursday afternoon’s game against the Boston Red Sox to achieve that. Their lineup is by far the weakest they’ve had all season, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will sit for the first time this season.
Moving up to the second spot in the lineup is Andrés Giménez. Of the six Blue Jays home runs they’ve hit this season, three of them belong to the second baseman. Filling in the fourth spot is George Springer, who has been their best hitter early this season and has two home runs of his own.
Alejandro Kirk will get the day off, with Tyler Heineman filling in. Heineman, who bats eighth Thursday afternoon, hit the Blue Jays’ other home run, and Kirk didn’t have an especially good game Wednesday. Bo Bichette leads off and Anthony Santander will hit third in this game, while Will Wagner hits fifth, Ernie Clement hits sixth, Alan Roden hits seventh, and Nathan Lukes hits ninth.
The Blue Jays’ pitching has been terrific since the second game of the season, and that continued with Kevin Gausman’s start on Wednesday as he pitched eight innings with 10 strikeouts. Chris Bassitt gets the ball for his third start this season, owning a 0.71 ERA so far into the young season.
Let’s set up Thursday afternoon’s game!
