Yariel Rodríguez looks damn good today. There’s always a little spice with Yariel, too. He’s a fun pitcher to watch. #BlueJays

The Toronto Blue Jays snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 5-4 win over the Mariners in Seattle.
Yariel Rodriguez got the start for Toronto and picked up the first win of his Major League career. The Cuban right-hander scattered just one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings and struck out six batters. That’s back-to-back excellent starts for Rodriguez, as he allowed only one earned run over six-and-two-thirds innings in a losing effort on Canada Day Monday.
Alejandro Kirk had a big day offensively for the Blue Jays. He opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a double that drove in Daulton Varsho and he extended the team’s lead to 3-0 in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to deep right field. The Captain went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and pulled his on-base plus slugging percentage back over .600 in the process.
The Blue Jays added a couple more runs in the eighth inning to make the score 5-0, which was important because the bullpen made things interesting. Mitch Haniger hit a three-run bomb off of Trevor Richards in Seattle’s half of the eighth to make the score 5-3. Chad Green came into the game to record the last out of the eighth and then surrendered a run in the ninth inning before locking down his fourth save of the season.
The two teams will play the rubber match of this series on Sunday afternoon. Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Blue Jays and the Mariners will counter with George Kirby. A win by the Blue Jays would give them their first series win in Seattle since they won three of four at Safeco Field in August of 2018.
