The Buffalo Bisons split their first two games.
On top of the Major League Baseball season starting this past week, so too did the Minor League Baseball season. This is the Minor League Report, and unlike last season, we’ll recap how the Blue Jays’ affiliates and prospects did twice a week instead of everyday, usually on Mondays and Fridays.
Let’s take a look at how the Buffalo Bisons did in their first two games!

Bisons win one, lose one

In their season opener, the Bisons defeated the Rochester Red Wings 6-2. Rainer Nuñez hit his first Triple-A RBI, with Joey Loperfido being the standout player, hitting his first home run of the season and having a multi-hit game. Riley Tirotta and Michael Stefanic each hit a double.
Eric Lauer made the start, striking out four and allowing two earned runs in his inning of work. Andrew Bash picked up the win, while Eric Paridnho walked and struck out two in his two-thirds of an inning. The most impressive pitcher on the day was Justin Walker, who struck out three in an inning and a third. Braydon Fisher recorded the final three outs, with one being a strikeout.
Buffalo’s second game didn’t go nearly as well, as they fell 8-3 in eight innings. Another home run was hit by the Bisons, as Addison Barger hit his first home run of the season, while striking out twice. However, only Jonatan Clase and Nuñez had a hit other than Barger’s home run. That was Nuñez’s first Triple-A hit.
In terms of pitching, lefty Trenton Wallace had a tough start, giving up five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Paxton Schultz pitched 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Kevin Gowdy gave up an earned run in his inning of work, followed by Hayden Juenger, who gave up two earned runs in his inning of work. Justin Bruihl had a strong outing though, striking out two in his inning of work.
Speaking of Barger, he was named the Buffalo Bisons’ Player of the Week. Realistically, it was between him and Loperfido.
Unfortunately, Sunday’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. Up next for the Bisons is their first full series of the season, as they head to Memphis to take on the Redbirds for a six-game series. Jake Bloss is the expected starter for Tuesday’s game.

What about the other Blue Jays affiliates

Later this week, on Friday, the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, and Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays start their season.
New Hampshire hosts the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Vancouver Canadians head to Tri-City to face the Dust Devils, and the Dunedin Blue Jays host the Clearwater Threshers. All three of those series will be three-game series.
