It wasn’t a great week for the Toronto Blue Jays’ farm system.
This is the April 18-20 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. This week will focus on the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, and the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
Let’s dig in!

Bisons drop five of six

The Bisons dropped the first two games of the series in the last edition of the Minor League Report, with one postponement mixed in. Well, things didn’t start great, as they fell 3-0 and 11-5 on Friday.
In the 3-0 loss, Jonatan Clase had two singles, while Davis Schneider and Steward Berroa had one single each. Eric Lauer made the start, striking out five and allowing two earned runs in five innings of work. Dillon Tate pitched an inning, allowing one earned run and striking out two.
The second game was far less close, as the Syracuse Mets beat the Bisons 11-5. Christian Bethancourt and Rainer Nuñez each hit a home run, while Michael Turconi, Berroa, and Riley Tirotta hit doubles. Bobby Milacki started the game, giving up four earned runs in an inning and two-thirds of work. Eric Padrinho struck out the side in his scoreless inning of work, while Braydon Fisher struck out and walked a batter in his scoreless inning of work.
Buffalo’s only win came Saturday, as they defeated the Mets 5-1. Riley Tirotta hit a home run, while Ali Sánchez hit two home runs in the game. Clase and Orelvis Martínez each hit a double, while Sánchez had a three-hit game. Trenton Wallace had a strong start, striking out six in four and one-third innings of work, while Kevin Gowdy struck out three in an inning and two-thirds pitched.
The Bisons fell right back into the loss column on Sunday, as they fell 2-1 in the series finale. Tirotta hit his second home run in as many games (third of the season) while Bethancourt hit a double off one-time Blue Jay Sean Reid-Foley. Jake Bloss had a much better start, giving up two unearned runs and striking out seven in his four and two-thirds innings. Hayden Juenger struck out two and walked two in two and one-third innings, while Pardinho threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout.
Next up for the Bisons is a home series against the Rochester Red Wings, starting on Tuesday.

Fisher Cats split the series with Senators

The Fisher Cats won one of the three games in the last Minor League Report, but stormed back to split the series. First up was a 6-5 victory over the Harrisburg Senators on Friday. Jace Bohrofen hit two home runs in the game, while Josh Rivera also mashed a ball. CJ Van Eyk had a good start, pitching five innings with one earned run allowed. Jimmy Burnette picked up the save, striking out the side.
Saturday’s game saw the Fisher Cats win again, this time by a score of 4-2. Eddinson Paulino hit his first home run in the Blue Jays system, and Yohendrick Piñango hit a triple, one of four hits for him in this game. Bohrofen and Charles McAdoo each had two-hit games. Rafael Sánchez made the start, striking out three and pitching five innings, allowing just one earned run. Grayson Thurman, Conor Larkin, and Johnathan Lavallee pitched four innings combined, with four strikeouts and one hit allowed.
The win streak was snapped at two games, though, as the Senators won 3-0 on Sunday to split the series. Ryan Watson didn’t have a bad start, allowing three earned runs in six innings of work. The bullpen closed it down from there, striking out three in three innings of work. Piñango had a two-hit game in this one, while Alex De Jesus hit a triple.
This coming week, the Fisher Cats head to Binghamton to take on the Rumble Ponies.

Canadians struggle against Emeralds

Coming into Friday’s game, the Canadians had a 2-1 series lead over the Eugene Emeralds, but that quickly changed. The Emeralds evened the series with a 5-3 win on Friday, as Juaron Watts-Brown threw five innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out five. Aaron Munson allowed two earned runs, while J.J. Sanchez pitched two and one-third innings of scoreless baseball. Victor Arias hit his first home run of the season, and Aaron Parker hit a double, but it wasn’t enough in the loss.
Saturday’s game was much of the same, as the Canadians fell 5-2 in that one. They mustered just four hits, as Sean Keys, Adrian Pinto, Je’Von Ward, and Nick Goodwin hit singles. Kevin Miranda started the game, allowing two earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings. Pat Gallagher allowed two earned runs in his three and one-third innings, and Kai Peterson was the only pitcher to have scoreless outing, striking out three and walking two in his two innings of work.
With a chance to split the series on Sunday, the Canadians fell 8-3 to the Emeralds to lose the series. Parker hit his fourth double of the season while Cutter Coffey had a multi-hit game for the second time in three games. Fernadro Pérez got hit around, allowing four earned runs while not getting an out. Irv Carter replaced him, pitching three innings while striking out three. Bo Bonds, Chay Yeager, and Julio Ortiz all pitched scoreless outings in the final five innings of the game.
This week, the Canadians head to Washington State to face the Everett Aqua Sox.

D-Jays split with Flying Tigers

The Dunedin Blue Jays were down 2-1 in the series going into Friday. They quickly evened it up with an 11-7 victory on Friday. Yeuni Munoz and Yhoangel Aponte each hit a home run while Munoz, Edward Duran, and Peyton Powell each had multi-hit games. Austin Cates made the start, giving up three earned runs and striking out seven in 4.2 innings pitched. Colby Martin was the only pitcher with a scoreless outing, striking out two in his inning of work.
When the D-Jays scored 10 or more runs in this series, they were 3-0. Yes, they scored double-digit runs three times in the series as they defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 12-3 on Saturday. Canadian Bryce Arnold hit two home runs, and Jean Joseph hit one home run. Aponte hit a triple, J.R. Freethy had a three-hit game and a double, while Arnold also hit a double in this game. As for pitching, Trey Yesavage pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs but striking out 10. Gage Stanifer followed him, striking out seven in four scoreless innings.
The D-Jays couldn’t complete the series win on Sunday, as they fell 4-1. Kendry Chirinos hit a double, the team’s on extra-base hit, while he and Manuel Beltre had two hits each. Colby Holcombe started the game, striking out a batter in five innings of work with three runs (two earned) allowed.
This week, they head to Tampa to face the Tarpons for a six-game series.
