There are now five different Toronto Blue Jays affiliates that are playing this season.
This is the May 2-4 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. With the Florida Complex League Blue Jays starting their season this past Friday, we’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, and FCL Jays in this article.
Let’s take a look at the week that was.

Bisons split the series with Cubs

On Friday, the Buffalo Bisons were doubled up by the Iowa Cubs, falling 4-2. The Bisons mustered just six hits, two of which were doubles from Orelvis Martínez. Trenton Wallace pitched five innings, striking out six with three walks and one earned run against. Paxton Schultz was tagged with the loss, giving up two earned runs in two innings of work.
Saturday’s game went worse for the Bisons, as they were blown out 10-2. A positive from this game is that Will Wagner hit his first home run of the season, while Martínez and Joey Loperfido hit doubles. Jake Bloss didn’t have a great start, giving up four earned runs in three and one-third innings pitched. Connor Overton gave up six earned runs in two and two-thirds innings pitched.
Looking for a series split in the series finale, the Bisons won that game 3-1 to move to 13-18 this season. In total, they had four hits, with Will Robertson’s triple being the only extra-base hit. Lazaro Estrada pitched four and two-thirds innings with one earned run against. Justin Bruihl, Bryadon Fisher, and Andrew Bash combined for four and one-third innings of scoreless baseball.
This coming week, the Bisons head to St. Paul, Minnesota to take on the Saints for a six-game series.

Fisher Cats drop five of eight to Sea Dogs

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats have played a whole lot of games this past week. It wasn’t a bad start to the second half of the week, as they defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 8-2 on Friday. RJ Schreck had a three-hit day with a double and a home run. Ryan Watson continues to pitch well, finishing with seven innings of three-hit ball to bring his season ERA to 1.24.
They won on Saturday as well by a score of 1-0. The Fisher Cats totalled just four hits, with Ryan McCarty’s double being the only extra-base hit. Michael Dominguez pitched 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. Ryan Jenning pitched three and one-third innings with four strikeouts as well.
However, their double header on Saturday didn’t go great. In the first game, they fell 6-5. Schreck had another game with a home run and a double, while Jace Bohrofen and Charles McAdoo each hit doubles. Devereaux Harrison pitched five and two-thirds innings with four earned runs against. Hunter Gregory was tagged with two unearned runs in his inning and a third pitched, bringing his season ERA to 0.79.
The second game saw the Fisher Cats fall 5-1, with McAdoo and Jacob Sharp each hitting singles, the only hits the Fisher Cats had. Moreover, they used six different pitchers in the seven inning game, with Bobby Milacki starting the game by pitching two innings with two runs against (one earned) and two strikeouts.
This week, the Fisher Cats return home to host the Hartford Yard Goats for a three-game series.

Canadians split series with Hops

On Friday, the Vancouver Canadians fell 7-4 to the Hillsboro Hops. Aaron Parker hit his fifth double, while Carter Cunningham, Alex Stone, and Nick Goodwin all hit doubles. Fernando Pérez had a tough start, pitching four innings with two earned runs and two strikeouts. Irv Carter was tagged for three earned runs in two innings of work.
Saturday saw the Canadians earn a series split at worst, defeating the Hops 6-0. No home runs were hit in this game either, as Cutter Coffey had the lone extra-base hit, a double in a three-hit performance. Sean Keys had two singles and drove in two runs. Grant Rogers had another strong start, pitching five and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts to bring his season ERA to 1.80. Pat Gallagher pitched two and one-third innings with three strikeouts.
Unfortunately, the Canadians were unable to earn the series win, falling 2-1 to the Hops on Sunday. They mustered just three hits, with Parker hitting two singles and Coffey the other one. Jackson Wentworth had a strong outing, pitching five innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Bo Bonds also struck out three in his two innings of work.
This week, the Canadians hit the road to play Spokane for a six-game series.

D-Jays win short series with Tortugas

This past week, the Dunedin Blue Jays played a three-game series against the Clearwater Threshers and another three-game series against the Daytona Tortugas, the latter being their opponent for the weekend series.
Friday’s game was an 8-2 win for the D-Jays, as Yhoangel Aponte hit a home run and a double, and Manuel Beltre hit a double in this one. Kendry Chrinos, Beltre, and Aponte all had three-hit games. Colby Holcombe pitched five innings, giving up an earned run and striking out six, while Justin Kelly pitched an inning on rehab. Colby Martin finished the game with three strikeouts in the inning.
It was another blowout win for the D-Jays on Saturday, winning this one 14-1. Phil Clarke hit the lone home run, while Jean Joseph, Edward Duran, Clarke, and Sam Shaw hit doubles. Khal Stephen had another strong start, striking out eight in five innings of work to bring his ERA to 1.82. Jay Schueler struck out three in two innings of work.
The D-Jays were unable to complete the sweep, as they fell 6-2 to the Tortugas in the final game of the series. Duran hit a home run and Aponte hit his sixth double of the season. On the mound, Gilberto Batista pitched four innings, giving up four runs (one earned). Bennett Flynn gave up two earned runs, but Kelly, Martin, and Javen Coleman pitched scoreless outings.
This week, the D-Jays are on the road to face the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels for a six-game series.

FCL Jays split the first two games

Lastly, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays started off their season with a 7-4 win on Friday. They totalled 13 hits, with Luis Meza and Juan Rosas hitting the only extra-base hits in the game. Rosas hit two doubles. Landen Maroduis made the start for the FCL Jays, pitching two and a third innings with four strikeouts and an earned run. Silvano Hechavarría pitched the bulk of the game, firing four innings with one earned run against and two strikeouts. Luis Torres had three strikeouts in an inning of work.
The second game of the season saw the FCL Jays fall 4-2 to the FCL Phillies. Enmanuel Bonilla, Edrick Felix, Maykel Minoso, and David Beckles all hit doubles, while Felix also hit a triple. Adam Kloffenstein made the start in a rehab assignment, striking out eight in four and two-thirds innings pitched. Sann Omosako had a rough game, giving up two earned runs in three innings of work, striking out four.
They resume their season on Wednesday against the FCL Tigers.
