Trey Yesavage won’t be in Single-A for much longer.
This is the April 29-May 1 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. This week will focus on the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, and the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
Let’s take a look at the week that was!
Bisons took two of three to start their week
This week, the Buffalo Bisons are in Des Moines, Iowa, to take on the Iowa Cubs. Tuesday’s game wasn’t a good start to the series, as the Bisons fell 9-1. The lone bright spot was Joey Loperfido’s third home run of the season, with Davis Schneider and Steward Berroa each hitting a single. Lazaro Estrada made the start, giving up three earned runs in four innings, while Connor Overton gave up six earned runs in two innings of work.
Wednesday went better for the Bisons, though, as they picked up a 10-8 win. Christian Bethancourt hit his third home run of the season, Schneider hit a triple and a double, and Will Robertson and Josh Rivera each hit a double. Anders Tolhurst gave up seven earned runs in five innings of work, with the bullpen combining for four innings, giving up just one earned run. Old friend Trevor Richards pitched for the Cubs in this game.
On Thursday, the Bisons won 8-1. Bethancourt hit his fourth home run of the season, as did Ali Sánchez. Orelvis Martínez, Rivera, Michael Stefanic, and Sánchez hit doubles in this game. Easton Lucas pitched six scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while Eric Pardinho pitched another scoreless outing, striking out three in his innings and two-thirds of work.

Tuesday’s game was a 9-5 loss, as Dasan Brown hit a double, with both Cade Doughty and Charles McAdoo hitting two doubles each. Devereaux Harrison had a tough start, giving up seven earned runs in four and two-thirds innings. Grayson Thurman struck out two in an inning of work to keep his ERA at 0 this season.

CJ Van Eyk pitched six innings with two earned runs to bring his season ERA to 6.46. Hunter Gregory picked up his second save of the season, striking out a batter in a clean inning.
The second game of the doubleheader didn’t go as well, as the Fisher Cats fell 3-2. Piñango hit his fourth home run of the season as well as his fourth double, the only two extra-base hits that were hit by the Fisher Cats. Alex Amalfi had the start, giving up three earned runs in two and two-thirds innings pitched. Geison Urabez pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
On Thursday, the Fisher Cats suffered their second consecutive defeat in a row, falling 5-3 to the Portland Sea Dogs in extra innings. Piñango once again had a terrific game, hitting two doubles, while Charles McAdoo hit his first home run of the season. Rafael Sánchez had a strong start, pitching five and two-thirds innings with one earned run allowed. The losing pitcher in this game was Johnathan Lavallee, who gave up three runs, two earned, in two innings of work.
Canadians played three high-scoring games against Hops
The Vancouver Canadians have returned home to host the Hillsboro Hops. Their first game was played on Tuesday, with the Canadians winning 15-9. In total, the Canadians had 13 hits, but only Sean Keys hit an extra-base hit, his third double of the season. Victor Arias had a four-hit day, and Cutter Coffey had a three-hit day. The Canadians used six pitchers, who combined for 15 walks and nine strikeouts.

Nimmala had a three-hit game, with Arias, Je’Von Ward, and Eddie Micheletti Jr. each having a two-hit game. Juaron Watts-Brown had the start, giving up two earned runs in four innings pitched, but striking out 10 in the process. On Thursday, the Canadians fell 12-2 to snap their four-game winning streak. Nimmala hit his sixth home run of the season and had a multi-hit game, while Keys hit his fourth double of the season. Pitching wasn’t great, as Kevin Miranada gave up four earned runs, Nate Garkow gave up three earned runs, Jonathan Todd gave up four earned runs, and Kai Peterson gave up an earned run while striking out four. Hayden Gilliland was the only Canadians pitcher who didn’t give up an earned run.
