Silvano Hechavarria is heading north of the border as he takes the next step in his journey through the Toronto Blue Jays’ farm system.
On Tuesday, per Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, Hechavarria was promoted from Single-A Dunedin to High-A Vancouver after 10 starts with the Blue Jays.
After opening the season on the injured list, Hechavarria was sent to Dunedin to get himself back in the form he flashed during the 2025 season. Through 10 starts this season, Hechavarria is 2-4 with a 7.29 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. The 23-year-old has struggled with walks, highlighted by 23 free passes over his 33.1 innings to begin the season.
While these numbers from the outset give some cause for concern, Hechavarria finished out his 2025 season in High-A with the Canadians, and the results were promising. In four starts, Hechavarria went 3-0 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Over his 22.1 innings pitched, Hechavarria struck out 19 batters and held opposing teams to a .229 average.
Originally signed by the Blue Jays on June 7, 2024 as a 21-year-old out of Cuba, Hechavarria burst onto the scene after a stint in the Dominican Summer League. In 10 starts, the right-hander went 5-2 with a 1.84 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP over 49 innings. Hechavarria held batters to a .162 average, all while punching out 57 batters, giving the Blue Jays’ organization another highly touted arm.
Last season, across three minor league levels, Hechavarria went 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. In total, Hechavarria threw 86.2 innings, struck out 82, and held opposing teams to an average of .217.
While this season hasn’t gone as anyone would have hoped for to this point, Hechavarria still sits as the Blue Jays’ 12th-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, and hopefully will find his stride as he joins the Canadians’ rotation.
