Another day and another roster move involving the Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpen.
On Friday, before the series opener against the Seattle Mariners, the Blue Jays recalled CJ Van Eyk from Triple-A Buffalo and he will be active for tonight’s contest.
Van Eyk is back for his third stint with the Blue Jays this season after appearing in three games during his two previous recalls. Across his three appearances, Van Eyk is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP.
The right-hander has struck out one batter over his 5.2 innings pitched but has allowed 11 hits during that span, good for a .393 average against. A starter in Buffalo for much of the 2026 season, the 27-year-old can provide some length to a bullpen that was taxed the past three nights.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays designated Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment. The writing was on the wall for Woods Richardson following the addition of Michael Lorenzen, and it became almost a sure thing following last night’s outing in which he allowed six earned runs in his lone inning of work.
This is the third time this season Woods Richardson has been DFA’d and second since being acquired by the Blue Jays from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for cash considerations on June 4.
Over eight games with the Blue Jays this season, Woods Richardson went 2-0 with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. The 25-year-old struck out 14 batters over his 18.1 innings of work and held opponents to a .222 average.
For the season between both the Blue Jays and Twins, Woods Richardson has appeared in 20 games (10 starts) and is 2-7 with a 6.68 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP. The right-hander has walked 37 batters across 66 innings of work and struck out 40.
