The Toronto Blue Jays have added another arm to their organization.
On Thursday, before the series finale against the Kansas City Royals, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reported that the Blue Jays signed right-hander Michael Lorenzen.
Lorenzen was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies on August 17 and released by the club two days later. In 26 appearances (25 starts) this season, Lorenzen is 3-11 with a 7.08 ERA and a 1.88 WHIP. The 34-year-old has struck out 88 batters across 115.2 innings pitched and has had opponents hit .338 off him during that span.
Originally signed by the Rockies to a one-year, $8-million contract in January, the righty failed to show the form he displayed during the 2025 season when he went 7-11 with a 4.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 27 outings with the Royals.
The Blue Jays will be on the hook for a pro-rated portion of the major-league minimum while the Rockies will be paying the remainder of Lorenzen’s $8-million salary.
Over parts of 12 seasons, with seven teams, Lorenzen has appeared in 421 games (144 starts) and is 57-66 with a 4.40 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Lorenzen has struck out 908 batters over his 1,111.2 innings and been hit at a .256 clip.
Lorenzen is set to be active for Thursday night’s contest and will work out of the bullpen. A corresponding move will be required to make room on the 40-man and 26-man roster.
