Shane Bieber will pitch tomorrow with Triple-A Buffalo, aiming for ~75P. It’s possible that’s the last rehab start Bieber needs. Depending on how it goes, the #BlueJays could be facing a decision on their rotation soon.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ rotation could be receiving a boost in the form of Shane Bieber as soon as next week.
On Tuesday, before the Blue Jays’ series opener against the Boston Red Sox, manager John Schneider told the media that Shane Bieber will make his third rehab start in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday before joining the club on their current six-game road trip to throw his side session.
Following the right-hander’s side session, the next steps will be determined on whether Bieber is ready for his 2026 MLB debut with the Blue Jays or if another rehab outing is required.
The goal is for Bieber to throw 75 pitches on Wednesday, 13 more than the 62 Bieber tossed during his second rehab outing with the Bisons on June 11, when Bieber turned in a pitching line of 5.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
Bieber has spent the entirety of the 2026 season recovering from elbow inflammation that limited the 31-year-old through Spring Training and much of the first two months of the regular season. Bieber took the mound for the first time this year on May 25 with the FCL Blue Jays, then made one appearance with Dunedin before being transferred to Buffalo on June 6, where he has remained since.
Over four rehab outings, Bieber holds a 1-1 record, a 6.00 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP across 12 innings pitched, but in Triple-A, he has looked sharper. In his two outings at the minor league’s highest level, Bieber is 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 7.2 innings pitched while also recording seven strikeouts.
The Blue Jays acquired Bieber on July 31, 2025, from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for pitching prospect Khal Stephen. Bieber didn’t make his Blue Jays debut until August 22 as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery that took place in April of the previous season.
Bieber became an instant success in the Blue Jays’ rotation upon his arrival in Toronto. In seven starts down the stretch, the right-hander went 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP, helping the Blue Jays claim the number one seed in the American League. Bieber threw 40.1 innings and struck out 39 batters while holding opposing teams to a .225 average, giving Schneider another high-end weapon in the rotation for the playoffs alongside Kevin Gausman and Trey Yesavage.
During the postseason, Bieber made five appearances (four starts) and went 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. In Game 4 of the World Series, Bieber turned in a pitching line of 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K to even up the Fall Classic, and outdueled Shohei Ohtani in the process.
Following the completion of the World Series, Bieber opted in to his $16 million player option for the 2026 season, forgoing free agency in the process. With Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin struggling as of late, Bieber’s return could be a major boost to the Blue Jays’ rotation that is doing its part to will the Blue Jays back into a playoff spot in the crowded AL.
