The Toronto Blue Jays once again have a five-man rotation.
On Friday, before the series opener against the Kansas City Royals, the Blue Jays activated Jameson Taillon from the 15-day injured list. Taillon is set to start tonight in what will be his third outing since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs on August 2.Â
Taillon was placed on the IL on August 11 with right forearm tendinitis after departing his start against the Boston Red Sox the night prior after four scoreless innings. On August 28, Taillon made his lone rehab outing in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons, throwing 48 pitches and turning in a pitching line of 3.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.Â
Through his two starts with the Blue Jays this season, Taillon has recorded a 3.38 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. The right-hander has held opponents to a .226 average and struck out five batters across his eight innings pitched.Â
Taillon is currently in the final season of the four-year, $68-million contract he signed with the Cubs on December 19, 2022, and will be a free agent upon completion of the 2026 campaign. Across 17 starts this year with both the Cubs and Blue Jays, Taillon is 2-6 with a 5.68 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP.Â
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays optioned Ricky Tiedemann to Triple-A Buffalo.Â
The left-hander was recalled on September 1 when MLB expanded its rosters from 26 to 28. Tiedemann tossed a shutout frame by working around two walks that night during a 6-1 loss against the Guardians.Â
Through two appearances with the Blue Jays this season, Tiedemann has a 3.38 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. The 24-year-old has struck out two, walked two and allowed two hits across 2.2 innings pitched in the big leagues.Â
After struggling with injuries for much of the past two seasons, Tiedemann is finally healthy and displaying the potential that has made him such a highly touted prospect since being selected in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft.Â
Through seven outings with the Bisons this season, Tiedemann has a 4.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. The lefty has struck out 10 batters across eight innings and allowed opponents to hit at a .276 clip.
