The Toronto Blue Jays have signed their top international free agent.
Multiple sources Monday afternoon reported that the team has signed Cristopher Polanco, who received a signing bonus of $2.3 million of their $8,261,600 available.

Polanco ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 22nd-best international prospect available, noting that the shortstop has a smooth swing from the left side and can hit the ball hard. There isn’t much room left for projection, as the 17-year-old stands at 5’11”, 170 lbs and he could end up playing second base in the future.
Baseball America is a little higher on Polanco, ranking him as their 11th-best available prospect. They note his best tool is his hit tool, but his defence is solid with good footwork. Although, he does have a fringe arm which may move him to the keystone.
Another prospect linked to the Blue Jays ranked on Baseball America’s list, as shortstop Juan Sanchez ranked 44th overall. He’s good defensively, has some good foot speed, and could grow into an above-average hitter, albeit there is some whiff in his game.
Additionally, it’s believed that the Blue Jays will also sign Kennew Blanco, who was set to be their big signing during the last window. He ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 10th best prospect with a good swing, athleticism, and solid defence on the left-side of the infield, but the deal was pulled back until this season.
Before the Blue Jay signed Anthony Santander (it’s been a busy day), they also agreed to terms with Cuban right-handed pitcher Alexander Valiente, according to Francys Romero. The 22-year-old reaches 96 mph with the heater.

As you can imagine, more is still to come, as the Blue Jays traded for an additional $2 million in IFA signing bonus pool money in an attempt to land Rōki Sasaki. Either that is used on prospects they haven’t been linked to or is traded later in the season.
