For the first time in almost a decade, the Toronto Blue Jays have a great chance to make a deep run through the playoffs this October.

Since the club’s midseason surge, they’ve remained one of the best teams in baseball, as they currently hold the American League’s best record at 84-62 — sitting a half-game up on the Detroit Tigers — entering Friday’s series opener versus the Baltimore Orioles.

If the post-season started now, Toronto would win the AL East and claim the league’s top seed, securing a first-round bye straight to the division series. After winning two of three games versus the Houston Astros this week, creating 5.5 games of separation between the two division leaders, they’re positioned extremely well to enter this post-season as a top-tier threat.

In fact, according to Baseball Reference, the Blue Jays currently hold the third-highest odds to win the 2025 World Series at 13.6 per cent, trailing only the Philadelphia Phillies (17.2 per cent) and Milwaukee Brewers (24.7 per cent).

Granted, you should probably take these percentages with a grain of salt, especially considering Major League Baseball’s playoffs are among the most unpredictable in professional sports. And other publications conduct their own post-season odds, too — like FanGraphs, for example, who have the Blue Jays (8.8 per cent) behind six other clubs to claim this year’s World Series trophy.

If nothing else, though, it illustrates Toronto’s remarkable campaign and how there’s plenty of potential for an extended post-season run this fall.

But it all starts with taking care of business the rest of the way, and finally getting over the hump of winning a playoff game, which this franchise hasn’t accomplished since 2016 — losing 2-0 in the wild-card round during each of the three previous playoff appearances.
