Things aren’t going well for the Toronto Blue Jays right now, both at the major-league level and down on the farm.

Top prospect Ricky Tiedemann made his fourth start of the 2023 season at double-A New Hampshire on Thursday but left the game with two outs in the fourth inning due to an apparent injury.

Tiedemann recorded the first two outs with ease, inducing his third strikeout on the day and a flyout, but walked off the mound in discomfort after throwing a slower-than-normal slider to the next batter. He immediately called for the Fisher Cats training staff while pointing to his left arm before ultimately departing the field.

The 20-year-old lefty had allowed two runs on three hits and a walk up to that point, throwing 60 pitches before his start ended prematurely. He was also called for a balk in the third inning, forcing in the Harrisburg Senators’ first run of the contest.

Tiedemann was shut down during spring training after experiencing left shoulder soreness, which delayed the start of his second professional campaign.

The third-round selection from 2021 made 18 starts last season, posting a 2.17 ERA with a 38.9 per cent strikeout rate and a .148 OPP AVG across 78.2 innings over three minor-league levels.
