The ceiling is quite high for left-handed pitching prospect Dasan Hill, as the 20-year-old southpaw displayed with Thursday night’s latest gem at High-A Vancouver.

Making just his fourth start with the Canadians, Hill — ranked the Toronto Blue Jays’ No. 8 prospect by MLB Pipeline — was exceptional in neutralizing the Spokane Indians’ lineup a night ago, holding the Colorado Rockies’ High-A affiliate to one unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out six across 4.2 innings on 65 pitches (42 strikes).

It marked Hill’s longest outing, both as a Canadian and since May 16 — back when he was still a member of the Minnesota Twins organization, which traded him along with two other prospects (John Klein, Dameury Pena) and $250,000 in international bonus pool cash for Jeff Hoffman earlier this month. His six punchouts also serve as a season high with Vancouver, but they sit one shy of matching his overall mark of seven.

The 6-foot-5 lefty dominated the first two innings against Spokane, retiring all six batters in order — three via strikeout — heading into the top of the third, which he nearly escaped without a run scoring. Alas, third baseman Gable Mitchell’s throwing error allowed a two-out walk to cross home plate before the bleeding was stopped one batter later.

Then in the fifth, Hill had an opportunity to complete five innings for just the second time in his career. After surrendering a leadoff single, he struck out the next two batters and would’ve seen a third out recorded on a strike ’em out, throw ’em out attempt at second base had catcher Ryan Sprock’s throw been on time.

Instead, with a runner in scoring position and two outs, the Canadians called to the bullpen to finish off the fifth inning, signalling the end of Hill’s impressive performance. He now owns a 4.05 ERA and 2.50 FIP over 13.1 innings with Vancouver, striking out 17 and walking only six.

This is probably as much as we’re going to see the Blue Jays push Hill’s workload, especially now that he’s approaching 60 innings during his second professional campaign. The tall and lengthy hurler likely still has a few more starts in 2026, however, considering the Canadians’ magic number is now down to seven as they eye a second-half playoff berth.
