Longueuil, Quebec native Abraham Toro has reached an agreement with the Boston Red Sox, signing a minor league deal that could see him earn up to $1M if he makes the majors in 2025. He also earns an invite to big league Spring Training.
Toro has spent time on four big league teams across six seasons, appearing as high as #3 on MLB Pipeline’s top 30 Astros prospects in 2020. His most successful campaign was in 2021, where he produced 1.6 bWAR in 95 games split between Houston and Seattle. The Quebec product has mostly filled a utility role, with Boston being his fifth team since making his debut in 2019
Toro’s 2024 season got off to a great start, producing a .761 OPS with the Oakland A’s through the first two months of the year. However, his bat then cooled off in June and a hamstring injury later kept him out until mid-July. He wasn’t able to regain his early-season form, with the A’s ultimately deciding to outright him from the roster and send him to triple-A to close out the year.
Red Sox have signed INF Abraham Toro to a MiLB deal, per @DanielAlvarezEE.
He spent 94 games in the big leagues last season with the A’s. .240/.293/.350/.643 with 6 homers. Good for an 87 OPS+.
Appeared at 1B, LF, 3B, and 2B last season.

The switch-hitter has produced a .220/.285/.353 career slash line through 365 career games, proving to be a streaky hitter in the big leagues. One positive about his offensive game is his ability to put the ball in play (88th percentile whiff rate) while occasionally showing off some power. Despite never producing gaudy stolen base numbers, he remains an above-average runner on the basepaths.
The ABC Academy alum played most of his games at third base in 2024 but also saw time at first base, second base, and left field. Although he isn’t a plus fielder at any spot, his versatility makes him a popular option for managers to have at the end of their bench. The 2016, fifth-rounder will look to win a job out of Spring Training as he enters his age 28 season.
Toro had a big role with Team Canada at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, collecting five hits and two walks in 15 at-bats. He seems like a good bet to make the roster again in 2026.
