The Blue Jays are reportedly making an exciting move this weekend, per MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson, with the club slated to promote red-hot hitting prospect Sean Keys to the big league roster. Per Ben Nicholson-Smith, that move won’t take place until tomorrow.
There may not be a hitter in all of the minor leagues who has been as hot as the former Bucknell Bison. Across 67 games split between double-A New Hampshire and triple-A Buffalo, Keys has slashed .284/.409/.619, with 21 home runs and 54 runs driven in.
The 2024 4th round pick hit the ground running to begin the 2026 season, but he’s been on an especially hot run of late. Over his last ten games with Buffalo, the 1st baseman has hit six home runs and 17 RBI, including three homers over his last two games.
Keys’ name has been thrown around as a potential trade piece in the last few weeks, especially considering that his long-term position is occupied by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. However, he has played roughly half of his games (31 appearances) at 3rd base this season, making it likely that he draws a few starts at the hot corner as well as DH as the season progresses.
Despite questions regarding his defensive fit, Keys forced the Blue Jays’ hand with how productive he has been over the last few weeks. He perfectly fits the power and patience offensive archetype that the organization covets.
