Ernie Clement has one more goal to check off his bucket list.
Appearing on the 6ix Inning Stretch, hosted by Lindsay Dunn and Whit Merrifield, Blue Jays’ infielder Ernie Clement had this to say when asked if he’s been ejected from a game:
“I’ve never been tossed. Recently, I’ve been thinking, I’ve had certain goals in my career, my first goal was to pitch in a major league game, that’s been checked off the list. I’ve always wanted to get a walk-off hit in a major league game. I got to check that off last year. Now I think I want to get thrown out at some point. In order to stick around, that’s something you have to check off your list.”

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 draft by the Cleveland Guardians, the infielder played parts of two seasons with their big league team, as well as a season with the Oakland Athletics. During the 2022-23 off-season, the Toronto Blue Jays signed him to a minor league deal, where he’s found a permanent home.
Spending most of the 2023 season with the Buffalo Bisons, Clement hit 11 home runs, matching his total home runs through his first six seasons as a professional. He played with the big league team to end the season, where he put up solid results in 52 plate appearances.
After a great Spring Training in 2024, Clement earned a roster spot out of Spring Training. Last season, he slashed .263/.284/.408 with 12 home runs in 452 plate appearances for a 93 wRC+ and 2.1 fWAR. Clement’s strong play at third base earned him a Gold Glove nomination.
So far in 2025, the infielder is slashing .280/.317/.383 with five home runs in 403 plate appearances for a 94 wRC+. Once again, Clement is having a strong season defensively, excelling at both third base and second base.
