Just when things are looking up and we’re all feeling great about baseball again, this kind of shit has to happen. Welcome to 2017. Following a sweep of the lowly Athletics, the Jays now find themselves in a situation where they are trying to avoid a sweep themselves. With the trade deadline fast approaching this may also be our final look at a couple of guys in a Jays jersey.
News and Scuttlebutt
Today is Canada Baseball Day and the Jays are celebrating in style by handing out the red unis for free down at the dome. There might have been a few people there early to try to get their hands on one.
Special congrats on #CanadaBaseballDay to @russellmartin55, who is now just the 5th Canadian to have played in 1,500 MLB games! 🇨🇦
A big milestone for Martin himself today as well.
Unfortunately, in all of the Canada Baseball Day celebrations, the Jays got some bad news on Tulo’s MRI.

And now, the lineups…
Blue Jays
We're celebrating #CanadaBaseballDay at the ballpark! 🇨🇦 Here is our lineup pres. by @MajesticOnField. atmlb.com/2tvSKmo
Cesar Valdez: 4.97 ERA, 25.1 IP, 9.9 H9, 1.8 HR9, 2.28 BB9, 6.4 SO9
Cleveland
The #Angels look to complete the sweep today in Toronto! Game Preview: atmlb.com/2hdEbyW
Jesse Chavez: 5.35 ERA, 109.1 IP, 9.6 H9, 2.0 HR9, 3.1 BB9, 7.1 SO9
For those of you who remember our old friend Jesse Chavez, he’s really not that good. Having said that, neither of the first two starters in this series were exactly studs either, and if the trend of former Jays doing damage continues the outlook isn’t good. Oh well, the Jays have ValdACE on the mound, so they shouldn’t need much.
