Guess who’s back, back again, Addison Barger is back, tell a friend.
Sadly for Blue Jays fans, the 24-year-old utility player isn’t in the lineup. In his first stint with the Jays, he slashed .056/.056/.056 with a single in 18 plate appearances and a -0.4 fWAR. It’s a small sample size, but he didn’t have the greatest success.
In Triple-A Buffalo, Barger is slashing .256/.380/.403 with nine homers in 397 plate appearances, but has cooled off after a great start to the season. Expect the left-handed batter to be in the lineup in the coming days.
One player who has had success in a small sample size with the Jays is Spencer Horwitz. In 21 plate appearances, the 26-year-old is slashing .389/.476/.444 with a double, along with a 14.3 K% and BB% for a 164 wRC+ and 0.3 fWAR. Unfortunately, this is his first day off since the same day he was recalled. He and Barger are out because Cleveland’s starter is a lefty.
Former Buffalo Bison Davis Schneider is batting in the lead-off spot once again, and he’s slashing .229/.324/.427 with eight home runs in 225 plate appearances for a 116 wRC+. He hasn’t had great success as the team’s lead off hitter though, slashing .194/.274/.367 in 113 plate appearances.
Ernie Clement seemed like a candidate to get designated for assignment (out of options) when Horwitz and Barger were called up, but he once again avoided the axe. This season, he’s slashing .243/.267/.365 with two homers in 122 plate appearances with plus defence around the diamond.
It’s also Pride Night, which is a small but important gesture for those in the community, including myself. A Blue Jays win would be nice here.
