2026 will likely be George Springer’s last season as a Blue Jay. In the blink of an eye, his six-year, $150 million contract is now in its final year.
This season has not gone according to plan for the 13-year veteran, but in a short window, he’s authored some of the most epic moments in franchise history, becoming a true fan favourite over the last six years.
One reason the Blue Jays gave Springer a record-setting deal at the time was for his signature power stroke. The man who was synonymous with delivering in the postseason for the Houston Astros had a chance to repeat history for a second team on his resume. Springer now has 300 home runs, 126 as a Blue Jay.
The best players always seem to deliver in clutch moments, and in many ways, Springer lived up to his contract with several big swings when the team’s life was on the line. These are the five biggest home runs of his storied time with the Blue Jays.
5. Springer hits career home run 300 (2026)
This should be fresh in everyone’s memory. It was a long time coming, but Springer finally connected for his 300th career home run, practically in Springer’s childhood backyard of nearby New Britain, Connecticut.
It was a much-needed big fly for Springer, who only has seven home runs on the season, and had one round-tripper in his previous 17 contests. After career home run number 300, Springer now sits 16th among MLB’s active home run leaders.
4. Moving into second place for all-time leadoff home runs (2023)
Springer hasn’t always been the leadoff hitter the Blue Jays have needed, but more often than not (74% of his games started with the Blue Jays, to be exact), he’s been at the top of the batting order when he’s been healthy. And when given that many opportunities, veterans like Springer are going to do damage.
This was the home run that moved Springer into second all-time for leadoff home runs, on June 25, 2023. By launching his 55th leadoff home run, Springer surpassed Alfonso Soriano, still well short of the lifetime leader, Rickey Henderson, with 81 career leadoff home runs.
3. George’s go-ahead three-run shot against the Red Sox (2021)
In an alternate timeline, maybe the 2021 Toronto Blue Jays eke into the playoffs, run through their opponents, and we’re having a different conversation about the best Blue Jays teams of all-time. But for many reasons, it was a little too late for that 2021 team.
Springer started the season with an injury, which kept him from being a fixture in the lineup until close to the end of July. But when he returned, Springer was a man possessed. Even though he only played 78 games that season, he was arguably at his best offensively as a Blue Jay in that span.
This was one of his 22 home runs on the season, a high-leverage three-run home run that put the Blue Jays ahead of the Red Sox on August 8, 2021. The 3.28 leverage index was the highest leverage home run of Springer’s time with the Blue Jays (save for the number one spot on the list).
The Blue Jays’ comeback victory against the Red Sox was part of a red-hot August and September, as Toronto went 31-21 after this game, narrowly missing out on the postseason in agonizing fashion on the last day of the season.
2. Springer’s Canada Day grand slam (2025)
This was the beginning of a magical run for the Blue Jays in mid-2025. In a crucial four-game set with the New York Yankees, not only did the Blue Jays overtake the Bronx Bombers after sweeping the series, but the Blue Jays never looked back and led the American League East the rest of the way.
Springer’s massive game on Canada Day of last year almost single-handedly won the game on July 1, 2025. Springer hit two home runs on the day, but it was his seventh-inning grand slam which sent the fans at Rogers Centre into a frenzy.
This game was not only one of Springer’s most productive games at the plate as a Blue Jay, but it was the most RBIs he’s ever collected in his career. He went 4 for 5 on the afternoon with two home runs, a single, and seven runs driven in.
1. The Springer Dinger (2025)
Was there ever any doubt? One of the most important home runs in Blue Jays history is also the most important home run of Springer’s tenure as a Blue Jay. Now known as the “Springer dinger”, it will live on forever as one of the most electric moments experienced at Rogers Centre.
With one flick of the bat, Springer took the Blue Jays from being a footnote in the American League Championship Series to advancing to their first World Series in 32 years. The World Series ended in heartbreak for the Blue Jays, but this home run encapsulated all that can go right in Toronto sports when you believe your team deserves it.
