The Toronto Blue Jays just keep finding ways to win games. 
With their 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday, the Blue Jays have now secured six straight series victories and improved their record to 61-64, while also moving into a tie for the American League’s final Wild Card spot. 
With a scheduled bullpen day, the Blue Jays used seven relievers –  including Braydon Fisher, Ricky Tiedemann, Simeon Woods Richardson, Mason Fluharty, Spencer Miles, Tyler Rogers, and Louis Varland – to limit the Yankees to one run on only four hits. 
The Yankees opened the scoring for the second straight game, this time on an RBI single by George Lombard Jr. off Tiedemann in the top of the second. After being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo this morning, Tiedemann made his MLB debut, a moment that was years in the making for many within the organization. 
Originally a third-round draft pick in 2021, Tiedemann has had to deal with various injuries to get to this moment. The 23-year-old turned in a line of 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, with his first career strikeout coming against catcher Austin Wells. Tiedemann sat at 96 MPH with his fastball and touched 97 MPH and appears to finally be at full health. 
Cam Schlittler was as advertised on Saturday, limiting the Blue Jays to one run over his 5.1 innings pitched. While the Blue Jays were able to battle him and run up his pitch count, they were only ablet to generate one run off the right-hander. 
In the bottom of the third after Schlittler retired the first batter of the inning, Brett Bateman worked a walk which was immediately followed by a Nathan Lukes single. With runners on first and second, Alejandro Kirk hit a single up the middle to bring home Bateman and tie the game up 1-1. 
Although the 2026 season has been a frustrating one for Kirk, the 27-year-old is batting .360 over his past 15 games to help raise his season totals to .270 with five home runs and 22 RBIs. In the first two games of this series, Kirk has driven in three runs and is getting hot at a key time. 
With the game remaining tied, the Blue Jays finally broke the ice in the bottom of the seventh off Yankees reliever Brett Headrick. Ernie Clement opened the frame with a leadoff single before Charles McAdoo smashed a 2-1 fastball off the left-centre wall for a double to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. 
After Rogers tossed a shutout inning for the second straight night, the Blue Jays put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth. The first three Blue Jays of the frame reached before McAdoo came through once again, this time lining a single to right field to bring home Andrés Giménez to push the lead to 3-1 and provide some much-needed insurance. 
McAdoo has looked much more comfortable in his second stint with the Blue Jays, as through six games in August, the 24-year-old is batting .250 with one home run and three RBIs. 
For the second straight game, Varland made quick work of the Yankees to pick up his 28th save of the season and lower his ERA to 1.26. Varland struck out Ben Rice, Heliot Ramos, and Luis García Jr. on 13 pitches to keep his good run going. 
The Blue Jays will turn to Dylan Cease on Sunday as they go for the series sweep. The Yankees will counter with Ryan Weathers. 
First pitch is set for 1:37 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre.
