Blue Jays recall Ricky Tiedemann, option Chase Lee to Triple-A Buffalo

Ricky Tiedemann is officially a big leaguer.
On Saturday, before the Toronto Blue Jays’ contest against the New York Yankees, the team announced that they recalled Tiedemann from Triple-A Buffalo and he is set to be active for today’s game.
Tiedemann’s journey to the majors has been a long one, as the former third-round draft pick in 2021 has dealt with a multitude of injuries during his time within the Blue Jays’ organization.
After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024, Tiedemann missed the entirety of the 2025 season, and has spent much of 2026 working his way back to full health. Shoulder and neck irritation sidelined Tiedemann for a month, but since returning to the mound on July 25, there have been no issues.
In seven outings, across three minor-league levels, Tiedemann is 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. The left-hander has struck out 11 batters across his seven innings and walked two.
Since joining Triple-A Buffalo in early August, Tiedemann has made three appearances and has a 12.00 ERA and a 2.33 WHIP across three innings pitched. During that span, the Blue Jays’ No. 11-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline has struck out three and sat in the high 90s with his fastball, flashing the electric arm he possesses when healthy.
In a corresponding move, right-hander Chase Lee was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Through seven games with the Blue Jays this season, Lee is 1-0 with a 7.88 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.
The 28-year-old has struck out two batters across his eight innings pitched, and recorded his first career MLB save during a 5-4 victory against the Houston Astros on August 5. Opponents have hit Lee at a .286 clip this season, and he has allowed three home runs, including a grand slam to Caleb Durbin during Thursday’s 7-0 loss against the Boston Red Sox.
