The Tigers put up a three-spot of their own in the bottom of the seventh, but the Jays scored two runs in the top of the eighth thanks to a single from Nuñez. In the top of the ninth, Myles Straw of all players hit a two-run home run to make it 13-3.

Takeaways…

It’s time to talk about Myles Straw and the Spring Training he’s had. The Blue Jays took on his contract to get some additional International Free Agent bonus pool money and he’s not even on the 40-man roster. However, he’s slashing .462/.428/.692 in 13 plate appearances this season. It’s worth noting that his 2023 and 2024 Spring Training also saw good results.
The Blue Jays had a whole bunch of hits – 14 to be exact. Of their extra-base hits, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Anthony Santander, Andrés Giménez,  and Leo Jiménez hit a double. Giménez and Joey Loperfido hit a triple, while Straw hit the team’s only home run. Guerrero Jr.,  Rainer Nuñez, Charles McAdoo, Alejandro Kirk, Christian Bethancourt, and Ernie Clement each hit a single.
José Berríos started the game, striking out three and allowing two walks in two and two-thirds innings. Ryan Yarbrough picked up the win, striking out a batter in his inning and a third of work. Jeff Hoffman pitched a clean inning with three strikeouts in an inning of work.
Lazaro Estrada, one of the Blue Jays’ newest top 30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline allowed two earned runs and struck out three in his inning and two-thirds of work.  Braydon Fisher gave up an earned run in his third of an inning. Hayden Juenger and Andrew Bash each pitched a scoreless inning.
For the first time since the beginning of Spring Training, the Blue Jays will have a scheduled off-day on Tuesday. They’ll return to action Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:05 PM ET with Kevin Gausman expected to make his Spring Training debut.
