One. More. Win.
On Wednesday evening, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 6-1, giving them a 3-2 series lead. Let’s take a look at what happened in this one!
The Blue Jays got things going immediately, as Davis Schneider hit the first pitch of the game out for a home run, his first career playoff homer. Side note, what a fantastic call by Dan Shulman.
Before Schneider even got the home run jacket off, the Blue Jays had another round trip. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a fastball inside on a 0-1 count out of the park, giving the Jays a 2-0 lead before the Dodgers even got a chance to bat.

The lone blemish on Trey Yesavage’s start was a home run from Enrique Hernández. However, the Jays answered that their next time up, as Daulton Varsho hit a triple and Ernie Clement drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

Yesavage continued to get outs, but the Jays got some breathing room in the seventh inning. With runners on the corners, Guerrero Jr. took a walk, but the pitch was wild to allow Addison Barger to score. Then, with runners on first and second, Bo Bichette drove in another run to give the Jays a 5-1 lead. They went on to add a sixth in the top of the eighth for the 6-1 win.

Takeaways…
The Blue Jays are just one more win away from the World Series. If you told me that at the beginning of the season, or hell, even when I began this job in 2021, I would’ve called you crazy. This has been a whirlwind of a season, but one that will live in Blue Jays fans’ memories forever.
I was fortunate to go to Game 2 of the American League Divisional Series, where Trey Yesavage struck out 11 Yankees in five and one-third hitless innings. Somehow, this start was even better as he struck out 12 in seven innings of work, with the lone blemish being a solo home run. There were so many records broken, including the most strikeouts in World Series history by a rookie.

This game started with fireworks immediately. On the first pitch of the game, Davis Schneider hit his first career postseason home run to give the Jays a lead. Two pitches later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went deep for the game-winning run. It was the first time in the World Series that a team went back-to-back to begin the game. The Jays sprinkled in more runs to put them in a position to win the World Series on Friday.
Addison Barger got the start despite the Dodgers’ starter being a lefty. He went 2-2 with a walk-off Snell, and also made a terrific catch on Shohei Ohtani’s penultimate plate appearance. He’s an everyday player.

Ernie Clement, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Daulton Varsho, Alejandro Kirk, and Bo Bichette all had a hit as well. As for their bullpen, the Jays got an inning out of Seranthony Domínguez, as well as two strikeouts and a scoreless inning from Jeff Hoffman.
It all comes down to this. On Friday evening, the Blue Jays will get their first of two chances to bring the World Series back to Canada. The game starts at 8:00 PM ET, with Kevin Gausman starting for the Jays and Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the Dodgers.
