It Kinda Seems Like Kevin Pillar Had Thumb Surgery

When last we heard about the thumb injury that sent Kevin Pillar to the DL back in August, and that he played through for the balance of the season, GM Ross Atkins was saying that surgery had yet to be ruled out for the centre fielder.
Well, I don’t quite know how to tell you this, but it sure looks from this picture posted to Pillar’s Instagram that surgery was indeed performed on him.
“Day one in the books,” he captions the image. Adding: #teamrehab #roadtorecovery #thumbsup ????
I… uh… guess that means it went well?
One assumes that Pillar will be ready to go for Spring Training in four months, but… we don’t have an information beyond what we’re seeing in the pic here! And we certainly can’t assume it means anything for the other Jays players Atkins wouldn’t rule out surgery for — Josh Donaldson (hip) and Russell Martin (knee).
But I definitely do get the sense that he might have had surgery! Just call it a hunch.
And on the day he won the Fielding Bible award for centre field, no less.
So… yeah. Get well soon, Kevin! Watch out for those breaking balls down and away!
