Due to the number of injuries the Toronto Blue Jays suffered during the 2026 season, opportunities arose for rookies to see playing time at the major-league level.
One of those players was Charles McAdoo. McAdoo had multiple stints with the Blue Jays for his first experience at the game’s highest level in his second full season with the organization since being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 30, 2024.
How the year went
Assigned to Triple-A Buffalo to kick off the 2026 campaign, McAdoo opened the year by batting .250 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs across 50 games. Following a wrist injury to Lenyn Sosa, which resulted in him being placed on the 10-day injured list, McAdoo had his contract selected on May 28.
McAdoo made his MLB debut a day later against the Baltimore Orioles, and after going hitless over his first two at-bats against left-hander Trevor Rogers, the rookie got to him in the top of the seventh. Sitting in a 1-1 count with a runner on second, McAdoo drove a fastball from Rogers 369 feet into the right field seats for both the first hit and first home run of his big-league career.
After picking up hits in his next two starts, McAdoo went 1-for-14 with four strikeouts over the five games that followed in June, resulting in the 24-year-old being optioned to the Bisons on June 20. Through his first six games, McAdoo was batting .160 with one home run, two RBIs, and was looking overmatched against MLB pitching.
McAdoo spent just under a month with the Bisons, and after continuing to impress in Triple-A, he was rewarded by being recalled by the Blue Jays on August 10. McAdoo wasted no time making his impact felt, as in his first game back, he slugged a solo home run off Boston Red Sox right-hander Sonny Gray to put the Blue Jays on the board in an eventual 2-1 win.
Over the month of August, McAdoo appeared to already be more comfortable as over 15 games, he batted .271 with one home run and seven RBIs. McAdoo’s production kept him in Toronto, and even as his playing time dwindled in September, he kept showcasing the talent in his bat.
In limited playing time to close out 2026, McAdoo went 8-for-24 (.333 average), and on the final day of the regular season, he displayed some of the power that has been touted throughout his minor-league tenure. In the bottom of the eighth, McAdoo unloaded on a 1-0 sinker from Cincinnati Reds reliever Carson Spiers, sending it 446 feet, and putting a stamp on a 5-1 Blue Jays victory.
McAdoo wrapped up his first year in the majors by appearing in 36 games and batting .258 with three home runs and 14 RBIs. Due to McAdoo’s positional versatility, he has a good shot to earn a role on the Blue Jays’ roster in 2027 if he can continue to show his bat can contribute at the MLB level.
